Ogier’s legal and regulatory expertise in the private equity and hedge fund space has helped earn the firm a double award win this month.
Ogier was named ‘Best Law Firm – Fund Domicile’ at the Private Equity Wire European Awards 2024, taking home the award for the third consecutive year, and won the ‘Best Offshore Regulatory and Compliance Firm’ category at the 2024 Hedgeweek European Awards.
Both awards recognise excellence among fund managers and service providers in Europe across a wide range of categories, with winners being voted for by Private Equity Wire’s and Hedgeweek’s industry-based audience. Both awards ceremonies were held in London earlier this month.
“We’ve been hearing the phrase ‘cautious optimism’ used in the private equity market for some time,” said partner Richard Daggett, co-head of Ogier’s global Private Equity team.
“In terms of deal activity, we saw a reasonable number of take-privates in 2023 but there was a shift in the last quarter when private equity firms started diversifying their exit strategies to meet market conditions. We started seeing a broader set of deal types, including secondaries and carve-outs, so I think that cautious optimism is appropriate.
“In the face of uncertainty, having a seasoned team of legal experts is paramount. Ogier’s global private equity specialists boast an intricate understanding of international and domestic private equity markets and regulation and includes market-leading legal specialists in the technology and ESG spaces. I’m delighted that our team’s expertise in all aspects of the private equity life cycle and unwavering commitment to client service has, once again, been recognised by our industry peers.”
Partner Niamh Lalor (pictured), who heads up Ogier’s Jersey Investment Funds practice, added: “We are proud to have been recognised for our regulatory expertise in the funds sector. Our cross-jurisdictional team prides itself on the provision of complex regulatory advice, which is crucial to assisting institutional investment managers make the best decisions on structure and domicile.”
Head of Regulatory Consulting for Europe, Owen Woolgar, commented: “Having only launched early last year, we are delighted that our team’s hard work in supporting clients of Ogier has already gained recognition with this award.”
