A Jersey-based volunteer group hosted a quiz night in the name of animal welfare, raising money to build two veterinary clinics for international charity, Brooke.
On Friday 9 February, members of the Brooke Jersey Supporter Group held a quiz and raffle at the Ambassadeur Hotel in St Clement in aid of Brooke, a UK-based charity dedicated to protecting the lives of working horses, donkeys and mules around the world. All proceeds from the event will go towards the construction of two vet clinics in Ethiopia where Brooke is also based, helping to improve welfare conditions for working animals and the communities that depend on them.
Mary Gaiger said: “Fundraising for our new project in Ethiopia got off to a flying start with our first fundraising event of 2024. Over 100 people attended our annual quiz, now in its tenth year. A slap-up supper, lots of laughs, and a quiz with a difference. The winners of the event, held at the Ambassadeur Hotel won the coveted Smart Ass trophy, a golden horseshoe.”
Mary and the Jersey group are part of a large network of volunteers fundraising for Brooke around the UK. Money raised from volunteers goes towards Brooke’s work across Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Latin America, making lasting improvements to the lives of over 100 million working horses, donkeys and mules who support 600 million people.
