Kate takes the plunge in Jersey-France Swim Challenge to raise money for charity

Kate Taylor, philanthropist, fundraiser and star of the Real Housewives of Jersey, is set to take on the relay swim race from Jersey to France this weekend.

All money raised from the Jersey France Swim is in aid of Dementia Jersey – a local charity supporting people in Jersey affected by dementia.

The swim will begin from the shores of Fliquet Bay, with one team member diving straight into the sea to start the 14 mile relay race to the south shores of Carteret, France.

Having never swum competitively in open seas before, Kate has been doing lots of training in preparation to ensure she is ready for the challenge and does her team, her Mum and sponsors proud.

Kate commented: “I have always enjoyed swimming, but I am not overly confident in open sea swimming for long periods. I am doing this challenge for my lovely Mum, who has always been by my side over the years and who is living with dementia; and to raise awareness of dementia locally. Having a family member with dementia affects not only the person with the condition, but their family and loved ones too.

“I came to Jersey when I was 22 and I consider it my home now. The Island has a big place in my heart, and I have always felt it is important for me to give back to the community that welcomed me with such open arms.”

As part of the challenge, Kate has raised over £8,000 for Dementia Jersey, including a generous donation made by her good friend, Jacquie Butlin, on behalf of the Butlin Charity Trust.

Jacquie commented: “It’s a great pleasure to be able to support incredible charities like Dementia Jersey, who provide a lifeline to so many people in Jersey. I’m so proud of Kate for taking on this challenge for such a great cause.”
