Jersey’s Minister for Home Affairs, Deputy Helen Miles, has announced the appointment of the Jersey Police Authority’s new Chair and two additional board members.

Simon Harman (pictured) a highly accomplished professional with a background in military service, law enforcement, financial services and the legal sector, has been selected as the new Chair of the Jersey Police Authority (JPA). With an extensive career spanning over three decades, Mr Harman has held various leadership positions within the Hampshire Constabulary, the Financial Services sector and served as a Centenier for nine years in St Helier. His versatile expertise makes him an ideal candidate to lead the Authority.

Minister for Home Affairs, Deputy Helen Miles, commented: “I am happy to announce the appointment of Simon Harman as the new Chair of the Jersey Police Authority. Under his leadership, I am confident that the Jersey Police Authority will continue to ensure the safety and security of our community while fostering transparency, fairness, and accountability in policing matters.”

Simon Harman, Chair of the Jersey Police Authority, added: “I am delighted to have been appointed as the new Chair for the Jersey Police Authority. I firmly believe we have a great opportunity to develop the role of the JPA and enhance the value which it adds to policing for our Island”.

In addition to the appointment of Mr Harman, the JPA welcomes two additional individuals to its board:

  • Annette Cullen: brings a wealth of experience in human resources at both strategic and operational levels. Her keen insight and comprehensive understanding will undoubtedly contribute to the Authority’s role of ensuring that the SoJP maintain an efficient and effective force.
  • Nigel Smith: has had a long and commendable career following over 30 years of service in the military. He has held key leadership roles demonstrating his ability to undertake complex strategic and operational tasks. His additional acumen as a board member for various businesses and charities in Jersey will be invaluable in guiding the Authority forward.

The JPA said is confident that the collective expertise and diverse backgrounds of the newly appointed Chair and board members will further enhance the Authority’s ability to provide effective oversight and governance of the States of Jersey Police.

The Minister and the JPA have expressed their gratitude to the outgoing Chair, Dr Jason Lane, and board members for their invaluable contributions and dedication during their tenure. Their unwavering commitment to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and accountability has been instrumental in shaping the Authority’s vision and ensuring the delivery of quality policing services.
