HSBC will formally open its new state-of-the-art branch in Douglas on Monday 31st July, in a move that sees the Bank establish a high street presence on Strand Street in Douglas.

The new branch, which reflects a substantial investment and is the result of a comprehensive refurbishment programme, will officially be opened on Monday 31st July 2023, at a ceremony by the Isle of Man Lieutenant Governor Sir John Lorimer and Peter Greenhill MLC, Member of the Legislative Council and Political Member for Finance Isle of Man.

Designed to offer modern banking facilities, the new Strand Street branch features a spacious layout, including an open-plan banking hall downstairs with counter service and a range of automated self-service and interactive equipment. Upstairs, there is a suite of more private meetings rooms, customer booths and a dedicated Premier space, offering customers a more personal service.

The branch move to the high street follows the relocation of HSBCs Head Office teams to a new central Douglas location earlier this year.

Following its launch, the new branch will play host to a number of special and bespoke events over the coming months, to support a variety of customer needs. A Mortgage Open Day will be held on Friday 11th August, while Financial Planning Clinics will also take place later in the month, as well as a Back-to-School Open Day to provide financial literacy advice and guidance for children and students.

Adam Belfield (pictured), Head of Wealth and Personal Banking at HSBC in the Isle of Man, said: “We’re really pleased to open our new cutting-edge branch, which gives HSBC a presence on Douglas high street for the first time. The way people bank is changing and we believe that making banking more visible by positioning ourselves in the main shopping area will be more convenient for customers. We’ve also invested a lot into the design of the new branch, with our layout bringing together face-to-face service and the opportunity to undertake routine banking tasks quickly and easily through automated equipment.”

Political Member for Finance Isle of Man, Peter Greenhill MLC, added: “Banks are an important part of our high streets, providing a range of banking services, access to cash, and, importantly, advice. I welcome HSBCs investment in the island that will support our community for years to come.”

HSBCs Head of Commercial Banking in the Isle of Man, Shibaji Dasgupta, also added: “HSBC remains committed to the Isle of Man and this latest investment in our new flagship Douglas branch reflects our approach to making banking – for both our commercial and personal customers – easier and part of their day-to-day lives, as we continue to evolve as a Bank to meet people’s changing lifestyle and working habits. We’re looking forward to welcoming people into our new branch on Strand Street.”
