Walkers has announced the promotions of Rebecca Hale, Jarrad Knoetze, Kathryn Macken, Angela Proctor and Marcél Treurnicht to senior associate in the firm’s annual global promotions.
Rebecca and Jarrad (pictured) practise in Walkers’ Insolvency & Dispute Resolution practice group, Kathryn and Marcél are part of the Private Capital & Trusts team, and Angela is a member of the Investment Funds & Corporate practice group.
The promotions have been welcomed by Walkers’ Guernsey managing partner Matt Sanders, who said that the firm was continuing its ambitious growth plans in the Channel Islands: “We are delighted to celebrate the success of our colleagues and to continue to be building and developing our Guernsey practice, with 19 new starters in the past year at all levels and across all practice groups,” he said.
“Having moved to new, expanded offices at the end of last year, we continue to invest in the business here. Developing the talent within the group is a critical part of our growth strategy and these promotions are thoroughly-deserved.”
About the new senior associates:
- Rebecca Hale is a Guernsey Advocate who has been practising in the jurisdiction since 2016 – she advises on all aspects of corporate and commercial disputes including contentious trust matters, administrations and insolvencies, and is President and Director of the Young Business Group and Membership Secretary of the Guernsey International Legal Association.
- Jarrad Knoetze advises on corporate and commercial disputes, including insolvency and trust disputes, and has been in the jurisdiction since 2019. He also advises on contentious and non-contentious regulatory matters, and spent more than three years in the dispute resolution team of a major South African law firm before moving offshore.
- Kathryn Macken advises trustees, settlors and beneficiaries on private client advisory, non-contentious drafting and structuring work. She has worked in Guernsey since 2018, has in-house experience with a local trust company, and is a full STEP member, having recently been named the highest scoring graduate for the STEP Diploma by the STEP Guernsey branch.
- Angela Proctor has experience working on private equity transactions, mergers and acquisitions, debt and equity multi-jurisdictional corporate restructuring as well as the establishment and restructuring of investment funds. She qualified in South Africa and gained experience in private M&A at a top-tier law firm, before joining Walkers in 2019.
- Marcél Treurnicht is a dual-qualified lawyer in South Africa and England & Wales with several years’ experience working in Cape Town, Hong Kong and Guernsey. He joined Walkers in 2021 and advises on private wealth structures, with a particular focus on digital assets and DAOs.
