Young and aspiring Guernsey sailors will now be kept warm and dry in local waters courtesy of a grant from Condor Ferries.

The Condor Community Fund has provided a donation to the Guernsey Sailing Trust for the purchase of coastal sailing jackets, trousers and life vests, which are to be used by children from ages six to 16 who take courses with the Trust.

Guernsey Sailing Trust’s General Manager, Sarah Creasey, was thrilled with the new arrivals. She explained: “We can see up to 2,000 school children every year,  the vast majority of who will be sailing in the Model Yacht Pond or in the open sea for the first time. The kit bought with the donation from Condor is essential for going out in all weathers in a sailing boat or RIB and ensures we can keep the youngsters properly equipped, so we are most grateful.”

Condor’s Community Fund was originally established in 2019 and supports Islanders who give up their time to develop community activities. The Fund sees numerous applications from across the Islands with a focus on sustainability, local benefit and enjoyment for others.

Greg Yeoman, Condor’s Commercial Director, said: “As a ferry company we have a natural affinity with the sea so are very pleased to be able to support the Guernsey Sailing Trust and their commendable efforts in teaching local children how to sail and spend time out in local waters.”
