The Chamber of Commerce in Guernsey have confirmed Dave Fishwick, entrepreneur and star of the Netflix film ‘Bank of Dave’ as speaker at their exclusive Gala Dinner later this year.

Self-made millionaire and former Burnley van and minibus dealer, Dave Fishwick rose to prominence 10 years’ ago through his efforts to revolutionise the UK’s banking industry single handed. He tore up the rule book and made policymakers, industry regulators and multinational banks sit up and take notice.

An expert on entrepreneurship, business and finance, Dave will be sharing his story – brought to our screens this year by Netflix – when he took on a seemingly impossible challenge of championing UK banking reform and will be offering valuable lessons for Island’s businesses both large and small.

Diane de Garis, President of Chamber of Commerce said: “This event is offers fantastic opportunity for us to come together and celebrate the considerable and diverse community made up by our Island’s businesses.

“I’m so pleased to be hosting Dave as our speaker for the event. His views on supporting his local community and businesses so strongly align with the ethos of the Chamber and we’re really looking forward to the event. We are also grateful to Sure as sponsor.”

Dave Fishwick said: “Just as we emerged from the pandemic, the cost-of-living crisis hit with full force, forcing business owners to grapple with supply chain issues, rising prices and dampened consumer demand. But despite the doom and gloom, there is still opportunity, ideas and potential.

“I’m a firm believer in supporting your local community, backing yourself and getting people together to achieve great things. Small businesses are the cornerstones of our communities, and we need to support them especially in these tough times. I’m really looking forward to the event, and I hope that my advice and experience will be both valuable to help you succeed, but also entertaining and inspiring.”

Alistair Beak, Sure Group CEO and sponsor, commented: “Events like Chamber’s Gala Dinner bring the Guernsey community together and give us all the chance to celebrate the businesses and people that make our Island great.

“At Sure we recognise the value of connections and are looking forward to seeing new and old friends at the dinner, as well as hearing Dave’s story of how one person can make a huge difference to many more lives.”

The Gala Dinner takes place on Thursday 23rd November at Beau Sejour and is open to members and non-members of the Chamber of Commerce. Further information about the event can be found here.
