HSBC Signs 51 Employers Pledge

HSBC in Jersey has signed up to the ‘51 Employers Pledge’ as part of its commitment to supporting the wellbeing of staff who are going through the menopause.

The 51 Employers Pledge, named after the average age that someone reaches the menopause, was launched in 2021 by The Diversity Network and represents a commitment to implementing a number of measures in the workplace to ensure that people going through the menopause feel supported, understood and included.

As part of signing up to the pledge, HSBC across the Channel Islands and Isle of Man are making a number of commitments, which they aim to implement over the coming 12 months, including:

  • treating menopause with the same level of seriousness, care, and support as other physical and mental health conditions
  • including menopause in long-term wellbeing or diversity and inclusion strategies
  • delivering training to educate everyone about the menopause and its impact
  • raising awareness with male colleagues, to help them support family members or friends

Kate Morton (pictured with Kate Wright), General Counsel, HSBC Channel Islands and Isle of Man, said: “We are so pleased to be marking this year’s World Menopause Day having committed to the 51 Employers Pledge. Menopause is a topic that has not historically been openly discussed in the workplace, and it is only by challenging that culture that we can fully support our people.”

Kate Wright, Co-Founder of The Diversity Network, added: “It is wonderful that HSBC has made this commitment to supporting a menopause-friendly  workplace. We launched this initiative last year and have been buoyed by the positive response from such a broad range of local employers. The more we all talk openly about menopause in the business community, the faster we will remove the stigma and see positive change.”
