The political uncertainty around Donald Trump’s presidency and the ongoing Brexit negotiations will be on the agenda at next month’s Guernsey Funds Forum in London.

The Guernsey Finance-hosted event – which has the theme ‘If the World Turned Upside Down’ – takes place in Bishopsgate on Thursday 17 May, and a panel will discuss the threats and opportunities presented in the current economic climate.

This includes: the most significant threats to the status quo; contractionary monetary policy and its consequences; protectionism and its impact on business; and general uncertainty created by Brexit and US political moves.

Views from different areas of the funds sector will be heard in the panel discussion. Taking part are funds lawyer Leith Moghli (Partner at Reed Smith), accountant Fiona Carpenter (Partner, PwC), investment managers Alex Barr (Global Head of Private Markets and Real Estate Investment Oversight, Aberdeen Standard) and Julian Adams (CEO, Adelante Asset Management) and economist Janwillem Acket (Chief Economist, Bank Julius Baer).

Fiona Carpenter said: “Investment product structuring is being turned on its head by investor demands. Investors are key and they always end up winning the argument.”

Guernsey Finance Chief Executive Dominic Wheatley added: “The breadth of speakers we have secured will guarantee an interesting debate. I am confident the range of opinions will offer delegates plenty of food for thought.”

During the final session of the day, Jon Moulton and Dame Helena Morrissey will go on the record in a ‘fireside chat’ format. Financial Times City Editor Jonathan Ford is keynote speaker at the event, which will be moderated by IFI Global CEO and Editor-in-Chief Simon Osborn.
