Two Guernsey charities, Bowel Cancer Guernsey and Male Uprising Guernsey, have joined forces to launch a new campaign, urging islanders to check the bowl when they go to the toilet.
A distinctive new toilet sticker has been created, promoting the catchy slogan ‘Look after you, check your poo’, alongside Bowel Cancer’s familiar strapline ‘Don’t sit on it, sort it!’.
The charities are particularly keen to highlight the campaign this April, which is nationally recognised as Bowel Cancer Awareness Month.
The stickers have been distributed throughout public facilities and prominent establishments across the Bailiwick in the hope that they will encourage people to check in the bowl when they go to the toilet and, potentially, detect the early signs of bowel cancer.
The charity is now inviting local businesses to get behind the campaign and introduce the stickers into their workplace.
The stickers were created by local design agency Two Degrees North with States Property Services distributing them on the lids of toilets across the island.
Sara Gould, Treasurer at Bowel Cancer Guernsey, says: “We are so pleased with the new stickers. Raising awareness of the signs and symptoms of bowel cancer is a vital part of our work and we’re confident that this catchy new design will encourage islanders to look after their health and get checked out by their doctor if anything seems wrong.
“From restaurants to offices, we’re encouraging all businesses to help us spread this important message by displaying the stickers in their own facilities. There’s never been a better time to do so than Bowel Cancer Awareness Month.”
Chris Walker from MUG, says: “It’s great to join forces with Bowel Cancer Guernsey once again to promote the importance of looking after your health. Bowel cancer is a disease that can affect the young and old alike and it doesn’t discriminate between men and women. The new sticker campaign is a novel way of getting this important message across that we all need to look after ourselves.”
To mark the start of Bowel Cancer Awareness Month, the Bowel Cancer Guernsey team will also be handing out fibre-packed breakfast goodie bags, sponsored by Channel Islands Co-operative Helping Hands Fund, at Liberation Monument from 7am until 9am on Friday 1st April.
