Jumpman Gaming has committed to supporting Guernsey Trees for Life (GTFL) for the next three years as part of the business’ plan to support Guernsey’s effort in becoming a ‘green island’.
The donation will fund 300 trees being planted at Le Guet over the course of three years, including the first 100 being planted in February 2022. Many of Le Guet’s current trees were planted around 90 years ago and are reaching the end of their natural life.
The first year’s planting will include 25 Scots pine, 25 Maritime pine, 25 Silver birch and 25 English oak. Half will be planted by GTFL and Jumpman volunteers and the remaining half by La Mare de Carteret pupils, in partnership with La Societe Guernesiaise, as part of the charity’s efforts to help, educate, young pupils on wildlife and nature. No trees will be cut down as part of the scheme.
Andy McCutcheon, Acting Secretary at GTFL, said: “Guernsey has a number of beauty spots including stunning beaches and coastline, but as we know the weather isn’t always beach appropriate and this is one of many reasons we need to secure the future of our parks, gardens and nature trails.
“Climate Change and nature loss is at the top of many agendas globally. With Guernsey having a relatively limited number of accessible green spaces open for public enjoyment, it’s important that our current spaces are protected and enhanced for future generations – donations like Jumpman’s are crucial to achieve this.”
The donation will support GTFL’s aim to contribute to sustaining and improving the level of biodiversity and continue offering a range of educational and recreational opportunities.
