Senator Sir Philip Bailhache has announced he is stepping down from his political career after nearly 50 years in the public eye.
In a statement released late yesterday, Senator Bailhache confirmed that he will not stand for re-election in May.
Describing his time as a serving member of the States Assembly as a privilege, the 72-year-old minister first entered politics in 1972.
His latest political role has been leading Brexit negotiations on behalf of the island.
