The Institute of Directors Diversity and Inclusion Sub-Committee in Jersey has begun a series of workshops for businesses of all kinds to discuss D&I issues and to promote its D&I charter.
The Diversity and Inclusion Charter is a set of guiding principles and objectives to support employers to improve diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
The workshops – at which directors and senior managers hear from D&I experts, Kate Wright (The Diversity Network) and Kiley Henley (HR Now) and discuss their experience and practical steps – are being hosted by international law firm Walkers, which was one of the first organisations to sign the Jersey Charter.
Partner Alexandra Corner from Walkers – who leads the firm’s Channel Islands Diversity and Inclusion Committee and who sits on the global D&I group – said that the firm was very happy to support IoD Jersey in promoting the charter and helping businesses fulfil its goals.
She said: “These workshops are a great way to discuss D&I issues and the practical and measurable steps that businesses of all kinds can take to ensure that we all benefit from each others’ experiences.”
“The Charter recognises that we are all on a D&I journey and we really look forward to the planned workshops where we can collaborate with other Jersey businesses and learn about what has worked in other workplaces.”
Julia-Anne Dix, who chairs the IoD’s D&I sub-committee in Jersey, said: “The IoD D&I Sub-Committee is delighted to be working alongside Walkers to host these lunchtime workshops.”
“This is a great opportunity for businesses to understand some of the theory and good practice on which the Charter has been built, and to consider how they can use it to help progress their own D&I journeys. It’s also a valuable opportunity for businesses to share their own experiences, insights and understanding of how to enable cultural change.”
