Local employer First Central Group has hit a major milestone, reaching one million customers in September 2021.

The motor insurance provider which employs a team of 32 in Guernsey has doubled the number of policyholders on its books following a revised strategy and a new leadership team in 2019.

Reaching the milestone demonstrates how significant investments in the organisation’s proprietary technology which has enabled a number of innovations across product, proposition and service.  The insurer celebrated the achievement by providing its millionth customer with a free policy.

Group CEO Michael Lee said: “We’re delighted to hit the one million customer mark. It’s a recognition of how colleagues have gone above and beyond to deliver our customers with outstanding service, despite the challenges of the last eighteen months. I can’t wait to work alongside our team as we enter the next stage of our growth trajectory”.

Chief Information Officer John Davison (pictured) said: “Our Guernsey team remains an essential cornerstone of First Central Group, and this result reinforces why. Investment into our bespoke insurance platforms have undoubtedly contributed to this amazing business milestone, with our local technology specialists continuing to develop the Group’s platforms on-island. Our Guernsey headcount has increased by 10% so far this year and we have ambitious plans to grow the team further, reinforcing our commitment to Guernsey”.

First Central Group’s success is reflected in the vast number of new staff members it has employed. The business has added 365 new colleagues over the past year to support its growth, offering a variety of digital learning programs to onboard them safely, despite the challenges brought by the pandemic.

Furthermore, it continues to advertise local positions, ranging from Data Architects to Developers, offering the tech-minded residents of Guernsey ample career opportunities.

The company puts its impressive growth down to providing straightforward insurance policies and first-class customer service. The success of this approach has led to ICS ServiceMark accreditation, a recognition of the insurer’s consistent service excellence. The customer satisfaction, loyalty, and trust that it inspires is further amplified by its ‘excellent’ Trustpilot score.
