Guernsey’s Proms returns for the 16th year on Saturday 11th September 2021 at the KGV Playing Fields.

Moving to the KGV has allowed the event to be extended into the afternoon. This year there will be two films shown on the big screen along with family activities and food and a bar provided by the KGV.

  • 3pm Mary Poppins Returns on the big screen
  • 3-6pm Creation Station
    • Guernsey Bubbles
    • Island Castles
    • Guernsey Cricket Roadshow
    • Access to the 3G pitches
    • Outside bar opens and food available
  • 5.15pm Hairspray on the big screen
  • 7.30pm Guernsey Symphonic Winds and Big Band
    • Guernsey Symphonic Winds was formed in 2005 and performs music ranging from military band and wind band specific compositions to arrangements of orchestral music, jazz, film music and easy listening. Their programme for the Proms will appeal to everyone and includes Elgar’s Imperial March, Strauss’ Thunder and Lighting Polka and music from Chicago and Oklahoma.
    • The Big Band line was revived for GSW’s concert in July and will perform, amongst others, John Lee Hooker’s Boom Boom Boom and Gershwin’s Lady Be Good.
  • 9pm Second half of the Last Night of the Proms live on the big screen
    • As is tradition the BBC Symphony Orchestra performs for the Last Night of the Proms and will conducted for the fifth time by Sakari Oramo and feature one of the great tenor of his generation, Stuart Skelton.
    • Folks songs from Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have been introduced into the Last Night of the Proms over the last 15 years or so to reflect the truly British nature of the Last Night. As last year, these have been specially recorded at selected venues in the host nations for the TV broadcast.
    • The concert will finish with the traditional Land of Hope and Glory, Rule Britannia, Jerusalem, Auld Lang Syne and the National Anthem

Proms On The Pier

Proms on the Wicket remains free to attend thanks to the support of principal sponsor Aspida Advisory Services and supporting sponsors Guernsey Arts, Guernsey Press, Specsavers and Utmost Worldwide.

“Aspida Advisory Services is delighted to have been able to help extend the Proms event into the afternoon and provide activities and entertainment for the whole family. The two musicals were chosen by the public and allows the music theme to play throughout the whole day. We are very much looking forward to enjoying the event with our staff and clients joining in the fun, and listening to some wonderful live music.” said Wayne Bulpitt, Joint Chair, Aspida Group.

It donations can be made on the gate in exchange for an all-important Union Jack flag and proceeds will be split to help cover the costs to stage the event and a donation to mental health charity Guernsey Mind, which is based at the KGV.

Chairs will be available for a small donation. Everyone attending is welcome to bring their own chairs and picnic blankets and pick their spot on the grass.

The KGV runs on a not for profit basis and it is asked that those attending support the venue and not bring their own alcohol. Please note no glass is allowed.

Limited parking is available on site and Shiloh Church has kindly also offered their car park for overflow parking. The KGV is on both the 41 and 42 bus routes and the N2 night service.
