A new book about Guernsey’s language, Guernesiais, is out now.

‘My First Guernesiais Word’ book has been published locally by Island Language LBG with translations by Yan Marquis. The book is full of bright and bold illustrations of everyday objects and a ‘how to say it’ guide is included at the back.

Guernsey Museum worked in partnership with Island Language to produce a learning video of the entire book, which is now available below.

The launch for the book takes place at Castle Cornet on Saturday 7th August at 10.00-11.30. There will be a chance for children to take part in language activities, watch the video and join in with some Guernesiais songs and rhymes at 11.00.

Saturday also marks the first day of the museum’s ‘Guernsey Language’ week for families, with a Guernesiais trail around the Castle. Normal admission applies to the Castle.

The books are priced at £7 each and available to buy from Castle Cornet, Guernsey Museum at Candie, Lexicon, Cadeaux Gift Shop, St Peters Post Office, Richards Newsagent in Alderney and online.
