St. Peter Port’s new quayside tractor has been christened ‘Tommy’ following a public vote held over Instagram and Facebook.
Children at the Guernsey Sailing Trust submitted 29 possible names for the £58,000 JohnDeere 7430 Premium. The winning name was chosen by nine year old Roux Fletcher who will be enjoying a £120 dining voucher at Beach House Pembroke with his family.
“Tommy is a significant improvement on his predecessor,” said Yard Manager, Mark Terry. “It’s essential to have capable and reliable equipment – not least because it helps us work more effectively and engenders confidence from customers.
“We’re pleased to have Tommy on the quayside and grateful to the Sailing Trust and local community for helping us choose a name.”
Tommy was identified as an essential investment at the time of the business’s acquisition by Peter Tom CBE. It’s the first of several improvements to the yard’s services and capabilities planned by Mr Tom as part of his vision to support St. Peter Port’s maritime community and the quayside’s economic growth.
In the coming weeks, the business plans to appoint a new General Manager, with applications invited from all suitably qualified individuals.
