An island community radio station is now available on DAB and able to welcome new listeners throughout the Channel Islands

QUAY-FM 107.1 is this week saying a very big welcome to their friends in Jersey, Guernsey, Sark and Herm, who can now receive their new DAB radio service which began broadcasting on 1st August, reaching the whole of the Channel Islands.

A few days ago Ofcom, the UK licencing authority for radio and TV granted a Local Digital Programme licence to not-for-profit enterprise Alderney Broadcasting, operators of Quay FM which until last night was receivable in Alderney only.

Alderney Broadcasting Board Member, Nigel Roberts, together with local volunteer Brian Chambers, lobbied for the licence to be issued to Quay FM. They said: “Bailiwick Broadcasting, who were awarded the master licence for all DAB channels in the islands some time back, have been incredibly helpful in bringing our style of community radio to a new section of listeners.

“Hopefully this will provide a window on Alderney life to residents of the other islands as well as bringing improved, crystal-clear reception to our loyal Alderney audience”.

The DAB service to the Channel Islands will be officially launched later this week by Chris Evans who will present his show on Virgin Radio from Jersey.

Alderney Broadcasting’s Technical Manager, Duncan Peck said: “We were keeping our fingers crossed that Ofcom would issue the licence to enable us to take part in the launch of DAB throughout the islands and they came up trumps”.

Station Manager, and presenter, Dougal Bohan said: “This represents a new chapter and a secure future for the station”.
