Jacksons is providing caps for this week’s Schools’ Kwik Cricket Festival in Guernsey as part of its ongoing drive to support budding cricketers on the island.

The Festival at KGV on Friday will see thirteen teams of boys and girls coming to the ground to score as many runs as they can and be the team to lift the trophy at the end of the day.

They will be using the skills they have been mastering on the Primary School Cricket Programme – delivered with Jacksons, a programme that teaches them batting, bowling and fielding skills.

The programme has been running throughout the Spring and Summer terms across all primaries in the Bailiwick, including Alderney.

Mark Latter, Chief Executive and Director of Cricket, explained to Channel Eye: “Our fully qualified coaches focus on fundamental movement areas – catching, agility, throwing and striking. We run sessions with all year 5 and 6 children and also youngsters in years 2, 3 and 4 so we are coaching several hundred children each term.

“Jacksons support of this Programme is so important to us, ensuring we have full-time coaches kitted out and available to deliver these fantastic sessions in a safe and fun environment. It has also funded four new school kit bags with cones, bats, balls and stumps and well as Owlzat, the new Guernsey Cricket mascot who will be making an appearance at the Festival on Friday and no doubt driving the noise levels up!”

Kwik Cricket sees teams start with 200 runs with children batting in pairs, each child bowling one over. Each pair faces two overs on a 16 yard pitch, scoring as many runs as they can but with minus 5 every time they are out.

Commenting on the Programme and this weekend’s festival, Onno Termeulen Head of Business, Jacksons Guernsey said, “We’re delighted to see the Primary School Cricket Programme giving so many youngsters in Guernsey an opportunity to learn the sport and hopefully develop a love of the game. For some, this Friday’s Festival will be the first time they have played competitive cricket and we hope they enjoy every minute.”
