Utmost Worldwide, together with the Guernsey Sports Commission, will be hosting the Utmost Community Sports Funday, a free event at Saumarez Park on Saturday 4th September from 12 – 4pm.

This year, organisers are focusing on inclusivity and offering the chance for all islanders, regardless of age and ability, to get involved to try a new sport.

The Sports Commission has confirmed 20+ sports to try out this year including Boccia, a Paralympic sport similar to bowls that can be played by everyone. Other activities will include boxing, football, fencing, golf, cricket, badminton, squash, bowls, athletics, walking football and much more.

People attending will be given a ‘Sports Passport’, which will give them the chance to complete 10 different sports to be in with a chance of winning a prize. The prizes will be sport-related to enjoy with your family at home, as well as a £500 voucher for sports equipment available for a winning school. There will be something for everyone, including a face painter for the younger children.

Darcy the Donkey, the Guernsey Island Games Team official mascot, will return once again and she will be taking part in her own challenge to complete her Sports Passport on the day.

Utmost Community Fun Day launch

Steve Sharman, Relationship Director for the Guernsey Sports Commission, said: “In support of Guernsey Together, the Utmost Community Sports Funday is about bringing sports to all generations. We want to encourage families to play and enjoy sport together with children.

“We know that taking part in sport can have a really positive impact on both our physical and mental health and the Sports Commission is keen to promote the wide-ranging benefits of sport at this event. This is an opportunity for our member sports to showcase who they are and how people can get involved, whether that’s participating or volunteering.

“We are encouraging each of our sports to provide some sort of fun activity or skills challenge, which the different generations can complete. We want this to be a really fun day and everyone is welcome to come along and try something new.”

Leon Steyn, Chief Executive Officer, Utmost Worldwide, said: “Each year we thoroughly enjoy being involved with the Community Funday. It has had great success over the last few years and this year, we are pleased to be opening it up to all abilities and ages. We hope everyone can enjoy learning a new sport and continuing to be active and healthy.”
