Guernsey’s Eat, Drink and Be Local Seafront Sundays are back for 2021

The Eat, Drink and Be Local (EDABL) Seafront Sundays are back for 2021, with four being held throughout the summer, the first of which will be Sunday 30th May.

Seafront Sundays are a staple in the Guernsey calendar that were sadly missed last year due to lockdown and Covid-19 restrictions, but the Guernsey Together spirit saw islanders rally and support their local producers where they could. It is hoped that this will continue as islanders flock to the St Peter Port seafront to discover what produce the island has to offer.

The EDABL Seafront Sundays will, once again, be sponsored by Guernsey Electricity. Community is at the forefront of the company as they lead the energy transition which will see Guernsey powered by 100% renewable energy through the importation cable during the summer.

Stuart Blondel, chief commercial officer at Guernsey Electricity says: “We’re proud to be sponsoring the EDABL Seafront Sundays for another year. They’re fantastic events, celebrating locally sourced products that really bring the community together. We look forward to seeing the community on the piers this summer.”

EDABL2021 will see a couple of changes to the events with the introduction of two new areas; EDABL Members pier and the ‘Hedge Veg’ producers zone.

The EDABL Member’s pier will see Crown Pier dedicated to those whose produce bear the EDABL logo. Islanders are justifiably proud of their goods, whether it’s been caught, grown, reared or produced on the island using locally sourced produce where possible. Being a member ensures that they’re easily identifiable as certified Guernsey/Bailiwick products.

Guernsey is renowned for its ‘Hedge Veg’ boxes and stalls dotted across the island, and throughout lockdown a number of new producers popped up to sell everything from flowers and food to cards and cakes. The new dedicated ‘Hedge Veg’ zone will provide these budding entrepreneurs with the opportunity to access a wider customer base.

EDABL Seafront Sundays provide a vital route to market for the stall-holders looking to grow their business, as well as allowing people to make the most of the beautiful marina and enjoy al-fresco dining.

Charlotte Dickinson, Chair of EDABL, explained to Channel Eye: “We’re delighted that we’re able to bring the Seafront Sundays back as they were definitely missed last year.

“We know that the past year has been tough on everyone, so it is great that we’re now able to come together and celebrate our fantastic growers, crafters, farmers, producers and brewers. The new interest that’s been shown in buying local has been invaluable to many of the producers, and we hope that these Seafront Sundays further encourage that support.”

EDABL is looking to welcome new members and encourages those who wish to join to contact them through their website. As a member, producers will get a stall in the new member’s area, access to the EDABL support network and marketing materials for their products.

If you’d like more information about EDABL and would like to secure your pitch for the Seafront Sundays, click here. Stallholders who reserve a pitch at all four EDABL dates will receive a 10% discount.
