In December 2020, the Jersey Community Foundation (JCF) was awarded 50% of the 2019 Channel Islands lottery profits to distribute to arts, culture, heritage, science and sport organisations in Jersey.

Applications to receive funding from these proceeds, which equates to £694,134, are now being accepted and details on the grant criteria and how to apply can be found here.

There will be two funding rounds in 2021, with closing dates of the 30th May and the 4th October. Funds will be distributed to organisations where the money can be used to benefit the community in Jersey, split across the following sectors:

Arts and culture fund

Boosting arts opportunities for the community, improving skills and creativity in the arts and culture sector and continuing to develop community cohesion are key priorities of the Arts Fund. A project might sit exactly within one of the supported disciplines below, across a few of them or involve another cultural discipline:

  • Music
  • Theatre
  • Dance
  • Visual arts
  • Crafts
  • Design
  • Literature

Heritage fund

Heritage and Art are important and valued in Jersey and are key to our sense of identity as an Island. This can be anything from the past that people value and want to pass on to future generations, including but not limited to projects involved in the following areas:

  • Nature
  • The countryside
  • Marine environment
  • Oral history
  • Cultural traditions
  • Community archaeology
  • Historic buildings, monuments and the historic environment
  • Museums, libraries and archives
  • Acquiring new objects
  • Commemorations and celebrations
  • Maritime and transport

Applied science and applied research

Science has many benefits to our society including creating new knowledge, improving education, helping us towards a healthier and more sustainable future and increasing the quality of our lives. Grants will be given for applied science or applied research in the fields of engineering, biology, ecology, physics, chemistry or mathematics, provided that the funds are either to be used locally or for the direct benefit of Jersey, including any education from which local residents may benefit.

Sports and active lifestyles lottery funding

Making it easier for everyone to have access to sports and physical activity can have a significant role to play in improving the physical and mental health of Islanders, as well as having a positive impact on our community and economy. Support will be given to those bids which seek to deliver outcomes with a long term focus on enabling active living, improving Islanders physical and mental health, and those which will increase participation numbers in sport and physical activity across all the Island’s population.

The charity can be contacted at grants@jerseycommunityfoundation.org for more information.

Anna Terry, CEO of JCF says: “We were delighted to be given the opportunity to manage this part of the distribution of the Channel Islands Lottery funds in Jersey. I would encourage any Arts, Culture, Heritage, Science and Sport organisations to check the grant criteria to see if they may be eligible so that we can help support projects which benefit as many people across the Island as possible”.

Grants from the lottery proceeds to charitable organisations that do not fall into these sectors can apply to the Association of Jersey Charities here.
