Artwork created by Guernsey islanders will go on display on the boards outside the former L’Eree Bay Hotel.
The west coast hotel closed in June and the owners RED fund locked and secured the site after making it safe while they considered its future. Hoarding was erected and will now be the backdrop for a creative project inspired by artist Sian Jones and Guernsey Mind.
“Working with Guernsey Mind, we encouraged islanders at this year’s Arts Sunday to be creative and produce five unique pieces of artwork with the working title of “Express Yourself”. It was lovely to see people of all ages adding their contribution to what is a celebration of life in Guernsey this summer,” said Ms Jones.
“I wanted them to go on display and when I saw the hoarding at L’Eree, it seemed the ideal place and the timing is also perfect as lots of people will be driving around. While Christmas is a happy time, there are lots of people who can’t be with loved ones and so I hope it brings cheer. My thanks to RED fund for being so helpful.”
Dowding Signs is supporting the project by adding the words One Day At A Time underneath the boards.
Andrew Haining, chairman of RED fund, said he hoped the artwork would be appreciated by islanders. “This is the first time we have installed art on any of our hoardings. We thought Sian’s idea was inspirational and hope that this installation will help to highlight the really important work that Guernsey Mind carries out in our community.”
