HSBC asks all customers to wear face coverings in Jersey branches

New States of Jersey public health guidance from Monday 26 October, will strongly recommend that Islanders wear masks in public indoor spaces to protect the Island from community spread of COVID-19.

The use of nose and mouth coverings, such as face masks and face screens, will be strongly recommended for anyone over 11 years old in enclosed public settings. This will provide added protection where social distancing cannot be guaranteed and where contact tracing cannot be easily recorded, as well as in all health or care settings.

In line with this guidance, HSBC is asking all customers visiting its branches in Jersey to wear face coverings.

The Bank aims to protect customers, employees and the wider public against catching or spreading COVID-19. It follows the Government of Jersey’s strong recommendation issued on Friday 23 October for the public to wear masks in enclosed public spaces including banks.

John Goddard, Head of Wealth and Personal Banking commented: “HSBC puts the wellbeing of customers, our colleagues and the community at the forefront of our considerations. In acting quickly to support the Government guidance to introduce face coverings in all our branches, we’re providing reassurance that people can continue banking as safely as possible.”

The bank will provide masks for customers who don’t have one.
