A plumber, dentist, and finance worker are among those who’ve swapped a life in business for life on the beat.

Guernsey’s latest cohort of police officers have been sworn in. The eight, six men and two women, were called to the bar of the Royal Court for the swearing of the affirmation as a member of the Guernsey Police Force.

Their training began last September, and culminated in a Passing Out parade and graduation ceremony where they were formally inspected by the Bailiff, Sir Richard Collas.

Among them, former plumber, now Constable 138 Peter Falla who said: “It’s been a challenging and rewarding 18 week course. It’s good to be at the end of it ready to start our careers as Police Officers.”

Constable 145 Hannah Kershaw said: “Before joining the police I worked as a dental nurse for 4 years. The Police Force was always a career option for me so I decided it was time for a change. I will be able to continue working with the public which is an aspect of the job I enjoyed. However, The Guernsey Police will offer me a varied, challenging and rewarding career.”

Constable 152 Jordan Taylor said: “Previously working within the private finance sector, the career change was the right decision for me. The 9-5 office job became tedious, doing the same jobs every day and never developing. I joined the police to pursue a career which is challenging and varies. The training course has been very challenging but rewarding at the same time. I’m excited to get out and develop on my training and progress in the job.”

Also fully fledged Police Officers are Constable 136 Silvio Abreu, Constable 137 Lewis Drummy, Constable 142 Brett Hewlett, Constable 148 Louise Potter and Constable 157 Ryan Wesley.

Chief Officer, Patrick Rice, said: “The Passing Out Parade marks an important milestone for every new officer and for their families. These eight have shown professionalism and real dedication to their learning. Now, they enter a new phase of their careers. Each will continue their development by working under supervision as part of our front line uniformed policing operations.”
