Pay-as-you-go Guernsey Electricity customers who run out of credit over Christmas won’t be cut off

Guernsey Electricity is promising pay-as-you-go customers they won’t be cut off over Christmas and New Year if they run out of credit.

The protected times – known as friendly times – are from 12pm on Saturday 23 December until 9am on Wednesday 27 December, then again from 12pm on New Year’s Eve until 9am on Tuesday 2 January.

The company’s communication manager, Clare Packman, said: “As we all know, Christmas can be a very busy time and people can forget to top-up their meters before the shops close on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. With our friendly times, the meter stays on even if the credit runs out when it’s not possible to top-up. Any debts are repaid when the customer tops up again.”

However the Guernsey Electricity is reminder customers that it is important meters are topped up with enough money to cover that time which will include all electricity usage, standing charges and the payment of any debts or Hire Purchases.

Prepayment top ups can be purchased from the following locations:

  • Iceland – Vale Avenue, Vale
  • Checkers Xpress – Landes du Marche, Vale
  • Checkers Xpress – Collings Road, St Peter Port
  • Candie Cache – Cambridge Park Road, St Peter Port
  • Food Hall – Le Pollet, St Peter Port
  • Co-operative – The Market, Market Square, St Peter Port
  • Jeffreys Garage – St Martin
  • Co-operative – Les Landes, Forest
