‘With everything that’s going on, it’s been heartening to see such huge public support for #FeedOurFrontline. This is a campaign that not only supports healthcare workers by supplying hot delivery meals, but it provides business to any establishment that can provide takeaway food. If there’s one thing the hospitality industry needs right now, it’s for the orders to keep coming in.
‘The campaign wouldn’t have been possible without the help of fetch.je, which has dropped its fees for businesses wanting to sign up. More than 26 suppliers have so far taken up the opportunity and I think many of our members understand the potential of it and what it can do for them.
‘Guernsey may have initially closed its food establishments, stopping takeaway and delivery services, but there’s nothing to suggest this is on the cards in Jersey, thankfully. I think the overriding feeling is that takeaways are essential businesses. It’s vital that people are able to get decent meals at home, and it would be backward to underestimate how important that is.
‘There are people working on the frontline who aren’t home to cook, there are people who can’t cook, for a variety of reasons. Plus, we’re living in lockdown and people might look forward to delivery food at the weekend – there is a mental health benefit.
‘There were more than 360 food orders on fetch.je over the weekend, so there is clearly a demand for takeaway food – and as long as there is, there’s hope for the many establishments in Jersey fighting to survive through this crisis.’
