A committed member of the team at L’Horizon Beach Hotel & Spa is celebrating a special work anniversary this month.
Alan Ronxin has been a member of the maintenance team at the AA Four Red Star hotel in St Brelade for 45 years, having started in November 1974, back in the day when guests wore black tie to dinner and dined to the sounds of a four-piece band.
Reminiscing on highlights of his career, one of which was a Royal visit Alan said: “When the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh came for lunch everyone had to really work hard and get the place in tip top condition. We were all on stand-by for any request they had. The adrenaline running through us all made it so exciting.”
He’s since been involved in the addition of a new wing of the hotel, worked on refurbishing the Spa, the car park, new staff accommodation and most recently the fabulous new Terrace.
Alan said, “The completion of the Terrace was a very proud moment for me. It totally transformed the hotel and really exceeded guests’ expectations.”
Over the past 45 years he’s had to learn to work with computers, deal with contractors and get his head around the changes in health and safety, as he explains: “When I started health and safety accounted for about 10% of the role but now it’s constantly on my mind. You have to think of every aspect of it before you carry out any tasks.”
Remarking on Alan’s special anniversary, Thomas Burford, Hotel Manager said: “We are extremely fortunate to have someone who is so passionate and committed to his job. Alan epitomises everything Hand Picked Hotels stands for. He gives 100% to L’Horizon every single day and is an absolute credit to our hotel.”
Alan added: “I get a lot of support from Head Office, they are continually investing in the hotel and all the staff. They want L’Horizon Beach Hotel & Spa to be the best it can be and I’m dedicated to ensuring that it is!”
As one of Alan’s favourite pass times is cycling he will be receiving vouchers to spend at a local cycle shop, as well as being treated to a special lunch to celebrate this significant work anniversary.
