30km cliff run is next challenge for Julius Baer

This year Julius Baer celebrates its 30thanniversary in Guernsey and to mark the occasion the bank’s staff has taken part in a range of events to raise money for Les Bourgs Hospice.

The latest challenge in this series took place on Friday 28 June as seven members of staff and 31 friends of Julius Baer took part in a reverse version of the 30km cliff run challenge known locally as the ‘dogbreaker’.

The challenge began at the Mallard Cinema and headed west towards The Imperial. The group headed up onto the cliffs  at the Fairy Ring then followed the cliff paths round the south coast to Jerbourg and on to the finish at the bottom of Le Val des Terres. Several water posts were set up along this route.

Stephen Burt, Branch Manager at Julius Baer in Guernsey and participant in the cliff run, said: “The conditions certainly added to what was already a tough event, with blistering heat to contend with as well as the terrain. Keeping cool was as important as keeping going.

“However it was all worth it to raise money for Les Bourgs Hospice. In our year of celebration we have taken part and sponsored many events and so far raised thousands for this fantastic local charity. Giving back to this amazing community, we believe, is the best way to celebrate being in Guernsey for 30 years.”

Following the challenge participants were joined by family, friends, staff members from Julius Baer and catering company Sueco, who supplied, organised and cooked a BBQ to celebrate their accomplishment.

Liz Stonebridge, Fundraising Administrator at Les Bourgs Hospice, said: “I’m really grateful to the Julius Baer team for supporting us throughout the year with countless fundraising efforts. This looked like one of their more difficult challenges and I hope everyone completed it in good time and injury-free.

“Their efforts will help us to support the continued delivery of residential, respite and day care to the people of the Bailiwick. I look forward to following their next challenges and events that they have  planned for this year.

As well as sponsoring the challenge, staff members have also taken part in Ian Brown’s 30 Rides in 30 Days Challenge, 30 Bays in 30 Days and many other ‘30’ related fundraisers.

So far the 30km cliff challenge has raised more than £5,000 for Les Bourgs Hospice. Donations can be made at: https://www.justgiving.com/companyteams/JB30YEAR
