HSBC Channel Islands and Isle of Man has made a donation to support the Blue Marine Foundation (BMF), and their work in protecting Jersey and Guernsey’s ocean habitats.
The philanthropic funding to the BMF totalling £300,000 is split over three-years, and began at the end of 2024 running until 2028.
The donation will support public education programmes such as the ‘snorkel trail’ initiatives in both Jersey and Guernsey, and expansion of the ‘hand dived’ mark to promote and reward sustainable fishing practices.
Established in 2010, the BMF is an international marine conservation charity established to protect and restore life in the oceans around the world. Its mission is to secure effective protection of at least 30% of the ocean by 2030 and the sustainable management of the whole ocean. To date, the BMF has been involved in projects in 21 locations all over the world, including the Channel Islands.
Commenting on the donation, Warwick Long, CEO of HSBC, Channel Islands and Isle of Man, said: “HSBC have a long-standing commitment to support the communities where we operate, and we are proud to help the Blue Marine Foundation deliver a range of initiatives designed to drive positive change that will benefit the marine environment for future generations.”
Freddie Watson, Blue Marine’s Channel Islands Project Manager, said: “It’s great to have the support of HSBC, which enables us to deliver a wide range of initiatives, such as education and outreach, crucial research and championing sustainable fisheries. We hope to see both Bailiwicks paving the way for marine protection, supporting thriving coastal communities and biodiversity.”
