Steve Cracknell sold two cars on his first day at Abbey Garage back in 1990 and has been a successful salesman ever since. He is now Volkswagen Commercial Vehicle Brand Manager based at Motor Mall on Queens Road.
Steve says his job hasn’t changed much over the years, but the vehicles he deals with certainly have. Steve said: “I still get the excitement of a sale even after all these years and I like seeing the smile of approval when a client collects their new vehicle.
“The vehicles themselves have changed a lot though, the materials, the fabrics and paint options available are all second to none. The electronics and the car gadgets available such as rear park camera, parktronic are amazing and generally the latest model designs have become sleeker, sexier and much more pleasing to the eye.
“From cars that can talk to you and stop you having a low impact crash to cars that can be opened with a fingerprint!”

Steve says he’s excited about the future, one he believes will see more electric vehicles on our roads.
“The future for me is electric at Motor Mall. The world is evolving at an incredible speed and I think electric vehicles are going to be a major part of this future.
“The thought of us all in electric vehicles and no more petrol or diesel might seem far away but who thought 30 years ago, we’d be talking to our watches and they’d be talking back! I hope to be part of the electric car journey before I retire!”
