29 Oct: IoD ‘Decision making challenges in a volatile world’
Share on LinkedInTwitterFacebookEmail

In the 3rd event of its Innovation Series, IoD Jersey will host a Webinar entitled ‘I used to be decisive but now I’m not so sure… Decision Making Challenges in a Volatile World’.

Sponsored by JT, the online event will take place on 29th October and follows the sell-out Innovation Series presentations earlier this year on Artificial Intelligence and Digital skills at Board level.

The presentation will explore some of the many factors that go into decision making, be they conscious or sub conscious, and what elements can steer the process: what are the primary considerations when making decisions; the impact of making or not making a decision; how to mitigate against wrong decisions; the dynamics of good and bad decisions and, finally, how to make decisions in an ever-changing world.

The Webinar will begin at 4pm and the agenda will run as follows:

  • Introduction by Ian Webb, Vice Chair IoD Jersey Technology Sub-Committee
  • Sponsor introduction by Daragh McDermott, Managing Director, JT (Channel Islands)
  • Presentation by David Brown, Chair, IoD Jersey Technology Sub-Committee
  • Summary and Q&A chaired by Ian Webb

David Brown, Chair, IoD Jersey Technology Sub-Committee said: “Everyone is having to make challenging and far reaching decisions this year, decisions with potentially significant ramifications on staff, their families and associated businesses. With day-to-day business and operation turned on its head, we take a step back and look at what elements steer our thought process. In this Webinar, we will look into human factors, bias, intuition, experience, gut feel, as well as rules-based decisions and automation.

“We will consider what guides us, what might misdirect us and how, acting on knowledge and how data appears to us, can lead us to certain conclusions. This online event offers some background and thought provoking elements gleaned from recent research”.

Daragh McDermott, Managing Director, JT (Channel Islands), said: “JT is once again delighted to sponsor the latest in this series of fascinating and informative webinars. We’re all trying to navigate the new landscape, understanding what it is that drives the decisions we make will not only help us make better decisions, but also make us think beyond the obvious questions that we might have only considered before.

“It has never been as important as it is now to take the time to carefully weigh up all the factors that go into making decisions which is why this session will be one not to miss. I’m looking forward to hearing how businesses and local members have changed the way they make decisions and to what extent the factors brought in by COVID-19 are behind how we approach things now”.
