Guernsey cows are often the stars of the fields for visitors to the island, but now they’re to be the stars of Sure’s 2018 phonebook.
Karen Langlois is the photographer behind the winning image – following a competition to find the perfect local scene.
200 entries were submitted to Sure in the six-week period, after which a shortlist of four was selected. The shortlist consisted of two images selected by Sure staff and two with the most likes on Sure’s Facebook page. The winning image of Guernsey cows leaning over a wall in the Castel was selected by a panel including local professional photographer Chris George.
Sure’s Emily Field said: “We felt it was a superb photo as it managed to capture a group of iconic Guernsey cows in a really interesting and unique pose. We were so impressed with the level of photography submitted and glad that the community had its say on who the winner was. We’re proud of the role we play in island life and recognise that community engagement is a massive part of this. That’s why we’re so glad that islanders embraced the contest and submitted such a fantastic range of images.”
Mrs Langlois’ winning photo has been printed onto an A1 canvas and presented to her as a thank you from Sure and a celebration of her win. Sure also made a charitable donation of £500 to its Community Foundation to mark the competition. The Foundation supports local causes and this sum has been donated to Safer, which supports victims of domestic abuse in the Bailiwick.
The 2018 telephone directory will be available from March 2018.
