THree nights of music from the shows have raised £8,000 for Guernsey Mind with an extra £1,000 being donated to Bailiff’s Ukraine Appeal.
You Can’t Stop The Beat was staged by The Big Band Collective and saw a 25 piece Big Band, eight singers and a choir squeeze onto the stage at St James for an evening of songs from the West End.
The evening was sponsored by Ravenscroft with Guernsey Mind as the beneficiary.
“We had a full house every night and the atmosphere was incredible. We had people singing along and dancing in the aisles and the applause and praise were just brilliant. We were very lucky that some of Guernsey’s best musical and vocal talent gave up their time to rehearse and perform as that allowed us to raise a huge sum of money for Guernsey Mind,’ said organiser and compere Tim Langlois.”
“We chose Guernsey Mind as the work they do is invaluable to so many islanders. The demand for their services and support over the last two years has increased significantly and I’m sure most of us have known someone who has struggled with their mental health and wellbeing in recent times. We wouldn’t have been able to raise as much as we did for Guernsey Mind and be able to make an additional donation for Ukraine had it not been for the support of Ravenscroft who covered all of our expenses. Despite already doing so much on the island, they didn’t hesitate in agreeing to make our idea into a reality.”
Maddy Diligent from Guernsey Mind said the money will make a real difference.
“The funds raised will be used to continue to develop our workplace products. We are looking into workshops, guest speakers and e-learning solutions to enable our workplace training to continue to reach as much of the community as possible. Funds like this assist the growth of the charity to enable us to provide support across our whole community. A huge thank you to Ravenscroft and the Big Band Collective for this donation,” she said.
