Guernsey Mind has launched a new campaign called ‘You Are Not Alone’.
Information boards, posters, stickers, and cards are being distributed around the island, providing details on where individuals can find support if needed.
The information boards include contact details for Guernsey Mind, the Samaritans, Guernsey Suicide Awareness Group and Healthy Minds, along with Doctors’ Surgeries and where to go for urgent help.
These boards also feature real-life case studies highlighting the importance of reaching out to others.
This initiative has been supported by three free mental health awareness training sessions aimed at professionals who frequently engage with the public. Approximately 75 participants attended, including hairdressers, barbers, beauty therapists, physical therapists, hospitality staff, retail workers, church leaders, and sports coaches.
Jo Cottell, Chief Executive of Guernsey Mind, said: “Christmas and New Year can be particularly challenging for many. Even when surrounded by colleagues and friends at various get-togethers and events, people can still feel isolated and lonely. The ‘You Are Not Alone’ campaign aims to reiterate to everyone that support is always available.
“While the importance of talking is widely recognised, knowing how to respond when someone shares their struggles can be difficult. The training sessions focused on offering guidance on how to talk to someone who reaches out and where to direct them for further help. Feedback has been extremely positive, so we are planning another session in the New Year. Additionally, a short ‘hints and tips’ video is available on our website for all to view.”
