The results are in from the Guernsey section of Resolution IT’s annual student competition!

The Resolution IT Design a Robot competition came to an end last week, with over 300 entries received from children in years 3-6 across the Channel Islands.

The brief this year was to design a robot that fits into one of the following categories: Health & Well-being, Environment, and Community.

After a difficult time judging the hundreds of fantastic entries, the Guernsey winners, listed below, were presented with their prizes at the Digital Greenhouse on Friday.

Congratulations to:

  • First place: Tilly Rainbow, St Martins Primary
  • Second place: Joshua Dawson, St Martins Primary
  • Third place: Joseph Du Plessis, Forest Primary
  • Community winner: Ava Le Page, La Mare de Carteret Primary
  • Community runner up: Karli Jooste, St Martins Primary
  • Health & Well-being winner: Eban Clark, St Martins Primary
  • Health & Well-being runner up: Alexander Textor, Sark School
  • Environment winner: Henry Gaudion, La Mare de Carteret Primary
  • Environment runner up: Leroy Xander Silva, St Martins Primary

Resolution IT were incredibly impressed by the number of entries that had been designed to make the world a better place and support the community. Tilly Rainbow, who came in first place, amazed the judges with her remarkably thoughtful and well-explained robot, the ‘Autism Buddy Bot’, invented to help people with Autism cope with new and unfamiliar environments.

Winner Tilly Rainbow being presented her Xbox Series S by Joe Wilkinson.

Tilly explained: “I invented the Autism Buddy Bot because I have Autism myself and there are things I find hard that it will help with. It will be my friend and hold my hand when I go to new places so I can feel more confident and happy. All people with Autism could have one!”

As a prize for submitting the highest percentage of entries, Sark School was awarded a £500 donation from Resolution IT. 100% of Sark’s students entered the competition!

Michelle Brady, Headteacher of Sark School, said: “The money is extremely gratefully received in such a small school. It’s difficult to find the funding for everything we need to cover, and this money will be used for new Chromebooks – particularly for our younger years. The young learners loved the competition, thank you for allowing their imaginations to flow! Many thanks to Resolution IT for your support.”

Pierre Jehan, Client Services Director at Resolution IT, said: “We were overwhelmed by the vast number of creative entries – it’s clear to see that the children’s imaginations were really running wild! We’ve had a great time running this competition and we were delighted to be able to expand it into Jersey this year.

“Congratulations to all our worthy winners and thank you to our generous competition sponsors for donating such wonderful prizes. Thanks also to Resolution IT’s Joe Wilkinson and Tove Barnes for creating and overseeing such a successful project!”

The competition’s headline sponsor, Clicksmith, donated two Xbox Series S consoles, one for the Guernsey winner and one for the Jersey winner, and Blue Islands donated two return flights to the runner up. Other prizes were donated by Oaty & Joey’s, Aladdin’s Cave, and Aztech Soccer. The competition was hosted in partnership with Digital Greenhouse.
