Andrew Ruellan from Ruellans Garage in Jersey has won the prestigious title of 2024 Technician of the Year.
Now in its 22nd year, the Top Technician Award by Aftermarket Online sees thousands of technicians from franchised and independent workshops across the UK enter in the hopes of claiming the title.
The judging for this award is rigorous and takes place over five rounds. The initial three rounds involve completing online questionnaires and questions requiring comprehensive answers of up to 3000 words, with the fourth and final rounds analysing the technician’s practical skills.
Andrew took part in both a half-day and full-day practical assessment of skills in Warwick, to beat the other nine semi-finalists and four finalists in timed, fault-finding tasks. At the end of the day-long assessment on 26 October, he was crowned the winner.
Speaking about this achievement, Andrew, who is also the Founder of Ruellans, said: “Winning this award is a dream come true; never in a million years did I think I would be crowned the winner. The practical assessments were tough with the added pressure of the timer.
“I love diagnosing problems with cars and exploring new technologies such as Electric Vehicles. For someone from an independent garage in Jersey, to win against some of the most experienced and skilled technicians from all across the UK is a massive achievement.”
