Watch: Ready set ho-ho-ho – £9,000 raised at Durrell Dash

Over 400 runners took to the lanes in Trinity on Sunday 1 December to mark the start of festive celebrations with the Durrell Dash.

The annual fancy dress fun run, organised by Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust and kindly sponsored by Rathbones, featured runners dressed as a Christmas tree, numerous Santas, a Christmas pudding and even a four-person caterpillar.

This year, 433 runners raised an amazing £9,000 by participating in the family-fun 2.6km, jolly 6km, or more challenging 12km race, all to support Durrell with their mission of saving species from extinction.

Rebecca Brewer, Durrell’s CEO, said: “We are so incredibly grateful to each and every runner who took part in the Durrell Dash this year and helped us raise £9,000, which will support our work around the world with some of the most endangered species. The atmosphere on the day was amazing and it was fantastic to see so many people take part in some really fabulous outfits and costumes.

“Of course, this event couldn’t happen without the generous support of our sponsors, Rathbones. This is the tenth year they’ve supported the Dash, and we are truly grateful for this continued partnership. I also want to thank 3D Events, all the wonderful volunteers and marshals, Normandy Rescue, the scouts and honorary police for ensuring the event ran smoothly.”

Peter Musker, Head of Client Development at Rathbones in Jersey, commented: “All of us at Rathbones were once again delighted to be able to support the annual Durrell Dash. It’s such a fun event, which brings together the community in raising funds for a very worthwhile cause – saving species from extinction.

“The atmosphere at the zoo was fantastic, with many runners of all ages and abilities taking part across the three races, and lots of volunteers helping to ensure the Dash was a success.”
