Watch: Donation from Condor makes waves for local swimming

Condor Ferries - Guernsey Swimming Club

Future Island Games’ and Commonwealth swimming hopefuls can now look forward to improved performances following a recent grant from Condor Ferries.

The Guernsey Swimming Club has used the donation from Condor’s Community Fund to purchase a number of computer tablets with waterproof covers, allowing coaches to track attendance and monitor awards in real time during lessons. The Club runs sessions six days per week at Beau Séjour, St Sampson’s and Les Beaucamps High Schools.

Kevin Penney, Fundraising and Sponsorship Coordinator at the Guernsey Swimming Club, was really pleased with the support from Condor. He explained: “Swimming is a fabulous sport and becoming increasingly popular locally as we currently have 420 active members, aged from three months to 85 years. This comprises the casual weekly participant to our young cohort of competitive swimmers who are aiming at qualifying and performing local and regional events, up to Island Games and Commonwealth Games standard.

“We appreciate the donation from Condor as it allows us to use the tablets to streamline the processes of registering swimmers and tracking their performances. In turn, this gives coaches more time to focus on the athletes themselves.”

Condor’s Community Fund was established in 2019 and supports Islanders who give up their time to develop community activities. The Fund sees numerous applications from across the Islands with a focus on sustainability, local benefit and enjoyment for others.

Justin Amey, Condor’s Head of Sales and Marketing, commented: “The applications we receive through the Fund highlight the fantastic work happening in our community. We are delighted to support Kevin and the Guernsey Swimming Club and hope this helps propel swimmers reach new heights in their chosen sport.”
