States of Alderney Member Bruce Woodhead is featured in a short video walking viewers through some of the key aspects of the recently announced Braye Opportunity Area MasterPlan.
This follows a recent public drop-in at the Island Hall in which around 40 Islanders discussed the proposals with States Members.
“The MasterPlan was positively received although there was a mixed view on achievability which is only to be expected with a concept proposal like this,” said Mr Woodhead, who sits on the Economic Development Committee. “We really appreciated the further information and ideas shared by those who attended.
“When the opportunity arose to make a video further explaining what the Braye harbour area could look like in the future, we felt it would help the public to better understand our vision.”
The video, made by experienced broadcast journalist David Earl, explains why the General Services Committee commissioned consultants Avison Young Ltd and partners to undertake extensive local consultation and draw up the long-term development concept.
It shows what is planned for the boat storage areas, the existing commercial area, the inner harbour, the quarry and Commercial Quay. A number of small-scale projects initiated by the Harbour Authority are already in hand in anticipation of the MasterPlan generating larger projects which will be costed and time-lined in conjunction with investors before being considered by the appropriate committees.
In the video, Mr Woodhead explains how the MasterPlan would expand the opportunity for shops and trade plus residential elements over 10-15 years, as well as potentially extending the quay to allow larger vessels to dock and ultimately create space for a small marina.
