Students are invited to apply for the Walkers Student Bursary Scheme designed to support young Islanders in Jersey and Guernsey through their university studies.
As well as supporting students through their university studies, it gives them experience of working in an international law firm.
The scheme has been operating in Jersey since 2020, and is being launched in Guernsey this year for the first time.
It is open to students considering a career in law who are either: a) undertaking legal or non-legal courses at undergraduate or post-graduate level, including those studying at law school; or b) planning to begin courses in the next academic year.
Successful candidates will be given financial support towards their studies, paid summer work placements, career mentorship, and direct support from the firm’s Human Resources team.
Fraser Hern (pictured), the Head of Walkers’ Channel Islands business, said that Walkers wanted to mark its 15th anniversary in Jersey, and its fifth anniversary in Guernsey, with a focus on greater investment into CSR initiatives. “We are proud to be continuing this scheme to support talented, entrepreneurial and collaborative people with their studies, whether legal or non-legal.
“We have been running similar schemes across different parts of the world for some time now, and with great success.
“Many people who have participated in such schemes have gone on to develop their careers with us. Others have taken a different path. Whatever the outcome we have fostered deeper and better relationships within the communities in which we work, and want to support.”
Sarah Forbes, Walkers’ HR Director for the Channel Islands and London, said: “There are full details on our website and we look forward to hearing from students at all stages of their studies, and to meeting candidates for interview this summer.”
