With less than two months until Jersey’s Election Day, Vote.je is reminding Islanders that, for the first time in Jersey’s voting history, they can vote by post.

In previous elections this option was only available to voters who were off-Island for the election.

To vote by post, Islanders need to follow these four steps:

  1. Register to vote: Whether voting in person or by post, Islanders need to register. It takes just two minutes online at vote.je/register or can be done by visiting their Parish Hall. You have until Tuesday 10th May to be on the main electoral register.
  2. Complete and return the postal voting application form: The form can be downloaded from vote.je/postal or collected from any Parish Hall, the Judicial Greffe in the Royal Square or the Town Library. Islanders need to return the form to the Judicial Greffe (by post or email) before 12pm on Wednesday 1st June.
  3. Decide who to vote for: The names, manifestos and photos of candidates who have been nominated for election this year will be available on Vote.je from Wednesday 18th May. Videos of each candidate speaking will also be published on Vote.je by the end of May and all households will receive a printed booklet with details of the candidates in their constituency.

Times and dates of hustings, where voters can ask candidates questions about the issues they care most about, will be published as soon as the dates are confirmed by the candidates.

  1. Cast your vote!

Voters who have applied to postal vote will receive their ballot paper(s), along with a prepaid envelope at the start of June. These must be returned to the Judicial Greffe by 12pm on Friday 17th June.

Voters also have the option of voting in person at pre-poll from 13th – 17th June at St Paul’s Centre in St Helier or at their local polling station on Election Day: 22nd June.

Jenny O’Brien, Head of Digital and Public Engagement, said: “We hope that offering Islanders the option to vote from the comfort of their own home, on a day and time that suits them, will encourage more people to vote in this year’s election.

“Tonight, we continue our monthly illumination of Fort Regent to remind Islanders of the upcoming election and encourage people to register to vote and to think about the issues they care most about when selecting the candidates they want to vote for.

“We want to thank everyone who has already registered to vote and remind Islanders that it’s not too late to have your say in who will make decisions that will affect all our lives for the next four years and beyond.”
