The Visit Jersey website, Jersey.com, created in collaboration with local agency Switch Digital, has received an international award of excellence from a leading global tourism organisation.
Visit Jersey’s Website Redesign and Digital Journey received the X. Award for ‘Design and Placemaking’ from the Digital Tourism Think Tank, which recognises the ‘very best in tourism from around the world.’
Visit Jersey’s winning digital experience came out on top in a competitive category including shortlisted entries from the Netherlands Board of Tourism & Conventions and the Singapore Tourism Board. Despite being the smallest destination on the shortlist, Visit Jersey scored highest across the four areas of judging criteria (Execution, Impact, Creativity, and Strategy) with the judges commenting: “This is a clear example of a small destination punching above its weight.”
The judging panel commended Jersey.com for showcasing the “uniqueness” of Jersey as an island break whilst demonstrating best-in-class features, functionality, web design, and a clear and consistent brand experience. They also praised the integration of a product database that showcases on-island partners, and the interactive map, which “provides a seamless transition from inspiration and discovery, to planning.”
Claire Lyons (pictured), Interim CEO at Visit Jersey commented: “I’m delighted that Visit Jersey’s efforts to innovatively raise the island’s profile and enhance the visitor experience have been recognised internationally. This award is a reflection of the successful collaboration between Visit Jersey and Switch Digital, and a testament to the world-class level of work being produced on the island by our talented teams.”
Nathan Nicholls, Co-Owner and Digital Director at Switch Digital who led the project added: “Huge congratulations to the Visit Jersey team on winning this award. It is a fantastic achievement and it was great to collaborate with the team on this project. The redesign is a brilliant example of the importance of focusing on user experience as part of the design process. Concentrating on user experience (UX) design ensures that multiple touchpoints harmonise to deliver a great experience for all customers. This was very much at the forefront of the design process for the Switch team and we’re proud to see the success of this relaunch recognised.”
The winning Jersey.com website design was launched in 2021 and plays a vital role in promoting all the island has to offer; in addition to providing a dynamic digital experience, Jersey.com serves as a vehicle for building awareness amongst Jersey’s core markets and is a key source of referrals for local businesses. The site was developed with a research-led approach to ensure it meets the needs of visitors and industry partners alike.
