Tree Planting at Hamptonne

BCR Law and their friends and clients at Les Amis planted 25 trees throughout the grounds of Hamptonne, Jersey Heritage’s Country Life Museum to give something back not only to the community but as one of their 2019 eco-initiatives.

BCR Law purchased the trees through Jersey Trees for Life which provided invaluable advice and support on the trees that would thrive at Hamptonne. The Jersey Trees for life team were also on hand on the day to advise everyone on how to plant correctly.

Angela Garner, Site Guardien at Hamptonne, said: “We are very grateful to BCR Law for donating the 25 trees to Jersey Heritage and Hamptonne Country Life Museum, and to BCR’s staff, as well as Les Amis and Trees for Life, for helping to plant them. Hamptonne provides a unique insight into the rural life carried on in Jersey for centuries and it is vital that we support the museum’s beautiful, rural environment. The new trees will greatly enhance the woods and orchard at Hamptonne, and the almond and apricot trees will be part of a replica 17th century flowerbed that we are creating. The grounds of Hamptonne continue to be one of the biggest draws for visitors, who in turn help us to preserve the Island’s rural stories and heritage.”

The legal industry is notorious for its significant use of paper. With only around 26% of legal firms in the UK solely using electronic copies of documents.

Alongside implementing several other eco initiatives within BCR’s Hill Street office. This provided an amazing opportunity for different departments within BCR Law, Les Amis and Jersey Heritage to work together under unusual circumstances as well as on benefiting the community. Included the 25 trees planted, there are 9 different species of trees including English Oak, Sweet Chestnut, Lime, Crab Apple, Almond, Apricot, Walnut and Cider Apple. All for the public to enjoy in the years to come.

Bev Dallas-Chapman, Senior Community Fundraiser, Jersey Trees for Life said: “We are delighted to have supplied the 25 trees for this event, Jersey Trees for Life is a small charity that rely on membership/sponsorship and donations for funding, campaign support and practical help. Jersey Trees for Life are the only charity entirely devoted to protecting the Island’s trees and woodlands. We have created several new community woodlands and often work closely with other conservation groups and charities to aid the survival of threatened local species, therefore we appreciate the help and support given from BCR Law for purchasing the trees from us, the Les Amis team and the team from BCR Law for the incredible help given in planting the 25 trees and Angela at Jersey Heritage for providing the much needed land at Hamptonne to enable the trees to be planted for future generations to enjoy.”

Jason Loveless, Head of Support Services at Les Amis said: “We were delighted to have been asked by BCR Law to be involved with this meaningful project. Not only do our residents love taking part in community projects such as this, but we have a strong environmental ethos here at Les Amis and are always eager to help improve and maintain the landscape of our beautiful island. We strongly believe that being outside and working with nature is hugely therapeutic and our residents are very much looking forward to getting their hands dirty!

Commenting on the event, Head of Litigation at BCR Law, Jeremy Heywood, said:  “We feel privileged to support the essential work of Jersey Trees for Life via our tree planting event and by extension helping to give back to the environment. Companies can play a significant role in affecting the environment. We hope that through events like these we can help decrease our carbon footprint and continue to support worthwhile organisations like Jersey Trees for Life, Les Amis and Jersey Heritage.”
