The latest consultant to join the Medical Specialist Group, Mr Veera Jaya Chandra Allu, has more than 20 years’ experience in surgical roles across three continents, including the UK, Australia and India.
Mr Allu (pictured) was recognised as the top-performing Association of Surgeons in Great Britain and Ireland (ASGBI) affiliate member in the ChM advanced training programme for General Surgery and was awarded a high distinction in both years of his Master of Surgery at the University of Edinburgh.
Since first starting his career in India, Mr Allu has completed an impressive portfolio of diplomas and qualifications in a variety of different surgical areas, all while handling a high volume of general, emergency and colorectal surgery cases.
He most recently worked as a consultant at William Harvey Hospital in Ashford, where he was promoted from Senior Specialty Registrar in 2020. For a short period at the end of 2024, Mr Allu supported the Medical Specialist Group as a locum before joining the team in a permanent role.
Mr Allu said: “It gives me immense pride to be a part of a patient’s healthcare journey, helping them recover and improve their quality of life. As a surgeon, I enjoy the problem-solving aspect, identifying issues and fixing them, so that patients have a chance at a healthier, better future.
“I knew little about Guernsey before moving here, but over six months, I have grown to deeply appreciate its charm. The warm welcome I received from the community, along with the vibrant culture, quickly made the island feel like home.
“I eagerly anticipate enjoying the beaches and the surf in the seasons to come. As a self-professed foodie, I delight in exploring the island’s diverse culinary scene, which continually surprises me with new and delightful discoveries.
“Professionally, the transition has been equally rewarding. I now experience a close, personal connection with my patients—caring for them from their first visit through to discharge. This comprehensive, patient-centred approach stands in stark contrast to my previous experience with the NHS, and it has enriched my practice in immeasurable ways.”
MSG Chair Dr Steve Evans said: “Jay has a commendable level of experience and expertise, so we are incredibly happy to be welcoming him as a permanent member of our team.
“He is dedicated to building extensive knowledge in every aspect of general and colorectal surgery, is committed to putting our patients first and will be a huge asset to the healthcare in the island.”
