Welcome to our series, ‘Meet the Team’, where we meet the people behind the businesses in the Channel Islands to find out what they’re doing and what makes them tick.
Tanya Scholtz is Guernsey’s Audit Director at Moore Stephens. We’re delighted to have the chance to get to know Tanya better.
Tell us about your career?
My path to becoming an Audit Director started with qualifying as a chartered accountant in South Africa at Ernst & Young in Cape Town. After training, I was offered a six-month secondment to Guernsey in 2014. I loved the island, its people, and the work-life balance, so I decided to stay.
When the opportunity arose to join Moore Stephens, I knew I wanted to be a part of its team, and I’m thrilled to bring my skillset to the role.
What’s the most interesting part of your work?
I love people; I’m a people person. I enjoy getting to know our clients and understanding their businesses, as well as how our team can help them succeed.
That’s also why it’s essential to look after your team; if your team are happy, they’ll be motivated to do great work. People often assume this job only involves reports or spreadsheets, but it’s really about understanding what the business wants to achieve and building strong relationships. That’s what makes the difference.
What motivates you?
I enjoy challenges.
I’m pretty competitive, which pushes me to deliver my best and I get a lot of satisfaction from doing a good job.
Beyond that, I’m an advocate for growing and developing my team – that’s a big motivator.
Tell us about your team?
We’re fortunate to be part of a close-knit group of diverse and talented individuals at Moore Stephens.
My team in Guernsey comprises six individuals, hailing from different corners of the globe, including Kenya, the Philippines, Zambia, and the UK.
What do the next 12 months look like?
Looking ahead, my focus is growing and strengthening our presence across the Channel Islands. The acquisition of Bracken Rothwell as well as my appointment has enabled Moore Stephens to combine our talent and expertise, helping us grow and continue delivering excellent service to our clients.
Over the next year, my mission is clear: to raise awareness of Moore Stephens and the exceptional service we provide to our clients.

What do you do with your free time?
My free time is spent mainly on family and sports. With a 22-month-old daughter, my days are filled with entertaining her.
Still, before becoming a mum, sports played a major role in my life, from playing rugby at a competitive level for South Africa to CrossFit and everything in between. While my priorities have shifted, the lessons I’ve learned from sports about teamwork, resilience, and optimism remain.
Who inspires you?
On a personal level, my family has been my anchor. My father, a school headmaster, showed me the importance of education and putting others first, while my mother has taught me what it means to nurture and support.
Professionally, seeing women achieve leadership roles is not only motivating but also a reminder of how much progress we’ve made and why it’s essential to maintain that momentum.
