Web and Marketing agency, The Refinery and cyber-security experts Defence Logic have joined together to offer a free service to Jersey charities.
All registered Jersey charities are being contacted and offered the chance to receive free website hosting which will include a 24-hour security monitoring package to minimise the risk of their websites being hacked.
Anthony Flemmer from Defence Logic confirmed: “We work with many large organisations who for years have recognised the importance of data protection, security testing and monitoring. Many of our local charity websites are quite small and may not feel that they are high profile enough to be at risk, but this is a dangerous assumption. The vast majority of ‘hacks’ are carried out by automated malicious programmes that browse the web indiscriminately looking for weaknesses to exploit. Even a high-level hack of a website can cause significant embarrassment for the owner, including loss of income, reputational damage and awkward communications with donators who may have had their data stolen.”
Alaistair Jerrom-Smith, Technical Director at The Refinery added: “We have worked closely with Defence Logic in the past. This led to discussions where we both agreed that charities in Jersey really need some extra support now, considering the impact that Covid-19 has had on their ability to fund raise. Working together to offer this free service is our way of helping to protect the reputation and integrity of these organisations so that they can concentrate on their core businesses, safe in the knowledge that their websites are protected.”
This offer is supported by WP Scan, who have provided a free vulnerability scanning license for use by Jersey charities.
