The Jersey Roads Challenge with Tim Ringsdore

A Jersey man is walking every island road in Jersey, this year. Tim Ringsdore will walk a total distance of 350 miles to raise funds for the JSPCA and Autism Jersey, and he’s asking fellow islanders – two and four legged – to join in.

Tim, a keen walker and CEO of Jersey’s Competition Regulator, said “I wanted to take on something a little unique, and to invite other Islanders who might not be able to undertake something as long as the Island Walk, but would enjoy seeing a part of their home island that they don’t usually get to see, in bite size walks.”

The JSPCA is the Jersey Competition Regulatory Authority’s chosen charity for 2022 and Tim is supporting Autism Jersey personally. He is hoping that Islanders will also donate to his challenge, and has set himself the target of raising a minimum of £1,000 for each of the two charities.

“I’m a Jerseyman and yet I haven’t walked every road. This is a great opportunity to help these charities but also to appreciate every mile of our beautiful Island. If there’s one thing that the last two years has taught us, it’s that getting out into the fresh air and experiencing our natural environment, is good for our physical and mental health.

“Both the JSPCA and Autism Jersey are very important local charities that I try to support in any way I can, and I’m really looking forward to raising money for them, but more importantly raising awareness of the great work they do”.

He will also have some well known local celebrities join him for some of the routes and will share photos, interviews and updates on the dedicated Facebook page.

Join Tim on Sunday 23rd January

On Sunday 23rd January, Tim is being joined by local historian, Ian Ronayne, who will lead him, and anyone who’d like to join in, on a tour around St Ouen. Nowhere in the Island is there a larger concentration of German fortifications, both on the beach and to stop attackers reaching the high ground. The walk will visit some of these remains, as well as take in the tranquil setting of St Ouen’s church where Ian will recount the tragic impact of earlier conflicts on Jersey’s oldest families.

Anyone wishing to join the walk and raise funds for the JSPCA and Autism Jersey, should meet Tim and Ian at the St Ouen’s Church car park at 2pm. Donations can be made via Tim’s Just Giving page.

Tim will be posting a schedule of his routes, and invites anyone to join him and get to know a part of the Island that they aren’t familiar with. Dogs are welcome, Tim is going to keep a tally of not just how many miles he’s walked, but also the dog miles.

Michelle Parker, JSPCA PR and Fundraising Manager said, “We’re very grateful to the JCRA for the support they have given us as their chosen charity, but in this case Tim really is going that extra mile for us! We wish him well with the endeavour and we’re asking all our supporters to cheer him on.”

Lesley Harrison, Head of Charitable Services for Autism Jersey added, “This is a magnificent effort on Tim’s part, and I’m sure everyone involved with Autism Jersey is going to get right behind him – literally in some cases! We’d urge people to get out there and do some of the walking with Tim and raise as much awareness as possible of the challenge.”

You can also follow Tim on Facebook or Strava where he will post regular updates and if you want to join Tim and help raise your own funds for these charities let him know tim.ringsdore@yahoo.co.uk.
