The Institute of Directors Jersey 2024 Future Leaders scheme, sponsored by by KPMG, culminated in a celebratory awards ceremony at the Royal Yacht Hotel.

The event saw the Minister for Education and Lifelong Learning presenting students with their certificates and awards, alongside representatives from the main sponsor, KPMG, and Andium Homes. Open to all Year 12 students, the scheme offers a unique opportunity to spend a week shadowing a Director or Senior Manager, providing invaluable career insight.

The Future Leaders scheme, which has been running for over 40 years, had a broad range of participating organisations this year, including Ports of Jersey, Waddington Architects, All Island Media, JT, Preston Legal, Danny Evans Photography, Jersey Cheshire Homes, Lodge Farm, KPMG, as well as various Government Departments such as the Jersey Library, Economy Department, Health and Community Services, and CYPES.

Thirty students were celebrated at the event. Seventeen students from across the island’s schools received certificates of participation, and a further seven students were awarded Commended certificates.

Hannah Samson, Chair of IoD Jersey’s Student Sub-Committee, commented: “What I enjoy most is reading the reflection reports and hearing all about the wonderful experiences the students have had, and how it has inspired their future career journeys. KPMG has been incredible in helping develop the scheme, and their support means so much to all of us involved.”

Andrew Quinn, KPMG Partner and Jersey Office Leader in the Crown Dependencies, highlighted KPMG’s longstanding commitment to the scheme: “Over my 26 years at KPMG, I have seen many IoD Future Leaders students return to the firm for further work experience or even permanent roles. Just one week of shadowing a director can lead to fantastic career opportunities. We have proudly sponsored these awards for 16 years, and I would strongly encourage any other organisations considering the scheme to get involved.”
